4 ways to stay active in winter

When winter comes around we are all guilty of going into hibernation mode from time to time. Ensure you stay on the active side of the cooler months here we have four simple tips to help you stay active when the temperature drops.

Change the way you think

When it’s raining outside it makes it that much for difficult the fathom heading outdoors to make it to your aerobics class. Furthermore, during the cooler months all types of physical activity become that much for trying. To help, at the start of the cooler months plan out what you would like to accomplish during this time and stick to it. Writing down your goals will help make you accountable. It helps to take on activities you enjoy – think indoor swimming in a heated pool or a light yoga class that is based around stretching.

Take up a winter sport

If you’re the competitive type, why not try a winter sport? Take a trip to the snow fields and hit the slopes or see what’s happening at your local ice skating rink.

Work out at home

Safety

If you do plan to brave the outdoors then make sure that where you are be active is safe – steady, non-slippery ground is a good start. For early-morning or evening walks and runs, scout out streets and sidewalks that are well lit, to help you spot puddles and slip zones. Look for a loop in your neighbourhood that you can repeat as many times as you want. Also, remember to pay close attention to your body temperature, drink lots of water and underestimate your abilities in particularly bad weather.
