Coles has announced that they have donated $143 million in funding and more than 35 million additional meals to Australians in need.

The announcement which details the specifics of the donations, was made via Coles 2021 sustainability report.

The sustainability report which covers the 2021 financial year, states that Coles contributed $143 million in community support to communities across the country in collaboration with customers, team members and suppliers to do so.

According to Yahoo News the $143 million contribution consisted of more than $124.4 million from Coles in cash, in-kind support, management costs and time.

A $18.6 million contribution was made by Coles customers, team members and suppliers from activities like fundraising.

Coles CEO Steven Cain said that these achievements were part of Cole’s better together strategy. “Not only did this help feed vulnerable people facing hardship, but importantly it also helped to reduce food waste,” he said.

“Better together recognises that when we work together, we can make a real difference to our team, suppliers, our customers and to the communities in which we live and work.”

Since forming partnerships with SecondBite in 2011 and Foodbank in 2003, Coles has donated the equivalent of 185.3 million meals to people in need.
