Hugh Sheridan mourns father’s passing

Aussie actor Hugh Sheridan has announced that his father has died aged 75 after a long battle with cancer.

Denis Sheridan passed away aged 76 on Monday, May 24, in Adelaide.

Hugh posted a W.H. Auden poem called Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone on Instagram to pay tribute to his dad.

“Denis Anthony Dominic (DAD) Ignatius Sheridan 4/8/1945 - 24/5/2021 … be free papa,” he wrote in the caption.

Friends of the actor sent their condolences, with messages coming from Rebecca Gibney, Anne Edmonds, Rebel Wilson, Jessica Rowe, Michael Pell, and Anna Heinrich.

The news of Denis’ passing was first shared by his cousin, Neville Quist.

“Denis Sheridan my legendary cousin has exited the stage for the very last time. The King of Swing and former Lord Mayor of Unley who opened for Frank Sinatra at Sanctuary Cove has sadly passed away yesterday (Monday) surrounded by his beautiful loving family,” Mr Quist wrote in a Facebook post.

“Denis was the consummate entertainer who lit up every room with his charm and style,” he said. “He sang beautifully at our wedding and into all of our hearts as long as I can ever remember.”

Dennis and Hugh performed together at this year’s Adelaide Fringe festival.

Sharing snippets of the performance on Instagram, Hugh said the two shows they did together “will remain in my mind as two of the most special performances I’ve been a part of.”
