Magda Szubanski breaks down during Andrew Denton interview

During a new episode of Andrew Denton’s latest show Interview, Magda Szubanski becomes emotional and breaks down over the loss of her mother, Margaret, who passed away at the age of 92 last year.

Her mother’s sad passing in September came just two months before the landmark “yes” vote to legalise gay marriage in Australia in November.

“I wish she’d been here to see the vote,” the 57-year-old actress, comedian and activist told Andrew.

“There were times during the campaign where I felt rage,” Magda admitted during the interview.

Sharing a photo of her and Andrew on set after the chat with her fans on Instagram, Magda wrote: “It’s not often you will hear me say this but it was an honor to be interviewed by this bloke. You can watch this Tuesday May 29 at 8.45pm on @channel7. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. And of course I cried. I f****n cannot help myself. Hopeless. I AM that middle-aged weeping woman I used to dread. Ah well.”

During the interview with Andrew, Magda also reflects on her contribution to the same-sex marriage campaign in 2017, the success of TV show Kath & Kim and hit movie Babe, plus her father’s experiences as a Polish resistance assassin in World War II.
