Mark Beretta's heartwarming surprise for mum's 80th

Sunrise’s sports reporter, Mark Beretta, surprised his mum for her 80th birthday by travelling home to Victoria over the weekend, and the photos are heartwarming!

He posted to his Instagram stories during the flight, writing, ‘Home for a special birthday’ on top of a photo out the plane window.

Later, he posted photos with his family and with his mum, writing, “Happy 80th Birthday Mum from all your boys! She’s the greatest, most amazing woman ever to put up with four rough heads like us and we think the world of her! Love you Mum!!❤️🙏👏🍾”.

Mark’s friends and colleagues were quick to wish his mum a happy birthday, with Kylie Gillies commenting, “Happiest of birthdays to your Mum @markberetta 4 boys? She deserves a medal. 🏅🏅🏅🏅”, and Larry Edmur writing, “Happy happy Birthday to your incredible mum . How special are mums ??? I hope you did the right thing and took The Cash Cow to lunch @markberetta”.

The visit comes on the heels of Beretta sharing one of the biggest regrets of his career with New Idea, missing out on family time in the morning. Talking to the magazine, the 55-year-old father of two said that he wished he’d spent more time with his children in the morning when they were little, but early starts at work made that impossible. “When the kids were little, they went to bed early and all the lights were off in our house by 7pm. But now they are staying up later and sleeping in, and you're missing that family time in the morning.

“Looking back, you think, I would have loved to spend more time at home, but life is what it is and you make the most of it.”

He stressed that despite that, he has “no complaints” about his job and is very grateful to be in the position he’s in, because it has given his family, wife Rachel, daughter Ava, and son Daniel, “extraordinary benefits”.
