Michael Schumacher’s family issues rare statement
Michael Schumacher’s family has grabbed the attention of the world after issuing their second public statement of the past six months.
While the message failed to address the recovery and health of the seven-time F1 world champion, the family announced their support for a new charity that was inspired by 49-year-old Schumacher.
Today, Schumacher’s manager Sabine Kehm released a statement highlighting the family’s approval and involvement of a charity poster celebrating the German racer’s iconic career.
The poster has been released through the organisation Keep Fighting in partnership with online store Zoom, to raise funds for the German charity ‘Never Give Up’.
Kehm clarified that the poster was released to celebrate Schumacher’s racing achievements and does not reflect any change in his ongoing recovery from a head injury.
In 2013, Schumacher was placed in an induced coma after hitting his head while skiing.
The Keep Fighting Foundation claims it is trying to promote Schumacher’s fighting spirit through the charity’s global projects, which include research into new road safety awareness initiatives.
“We are delighted to be partnering with Zoom to raise money for the Keep Fighting Foundation,” Kehm said.
“This is a stunning way to celebrate Michael’s iconic career and by the way a very beautiful poster.”
The poster shows Schumacher on his way to victory in the 2000 world championship, his third title overall.
The A2 poster, which has a silk finish, retails for $36.
Kehm repeatedly refuses to provide updates on Schumacher’s health, with many left to assume whereabouts in the world he is undergoing his recovery.
Reportedly, Schumacher is currently residing near Lake Geneva in Switzerland.
Earlier this year, the family’s spokeswoman denied reports the family was relocating to the Spanish island of Mallorca after the racer’s wife, Corinna, purchased a property in the village of Andratx.
“The Schumacher family does not plan to move to Mallorca,” Kehm said.
