What do people say before they die?
Ever wondered what goes through the heads of terminally ill people on the brink of death? A heartbreaking new report by the BBC has revealed the last words and wishes of people before they die, and what they have to say will bring a tear to your eye.
In the emotional video, palliative care nurses from Royal Stoke University Hospital in Stoke-on-Trent in the UK open up about the requests and regrets their patients shared with them in their final days.
Their stories, both heart-wrenching and uplifting, support previous research from the University of North Carolina, which found that the terminally ill and inmates on death row were more positive than you might think.
“When we imagine our emotions as we approach death, we think mostly of sadness and terror,” explains lead author Kurt Gray. “But it turns out, dying is less sad and terrifying – and happier – than you think.
“In our imagination, dying is lonely and meaningless, but the final blog posts of terminally ill patients and the last words of death row inmates are filled with love, social connection and meaning.”
