Buckingham Palace reveals Platinum Jubilee plans

The Queen will be celebrating 70 years on the throne with a four-day Platinum Jubilee celebration, set to include a star-studded concert and a race day.

Buckingham Palace announced its plans for next year’s celebration of the milestone with an extended Bank Holiday weekend in Britain from June 2-5.

The celebrations will start off with a parade, known as the Trooping the Colour, on Thursday, June 2.

Buckingham Palace will also host Platinum Party at the Palace, a live concert featuring the “world’s biggest entertainment stars”.

Other highlights include a day at the races for the Queen and her family, who will watch the Derby, held at Epsom Downs, before the concert.

On Saturday, a Service of Thanksgiving for the Queen’s reign will be held at St. Paul’s Cathedral.

On the final day, Britons are invited to have street parties in celebration and will be encouraged to share friendship, food, and fun with their neighbours.

A Platinum Jubilee Pageant will be held in London on the Sunday, combining street arts, theatre, music, circus, carnival and costume.

The Queen will reach the 70-year milestone on February 6 next year.

As with the Queen’s Golden and Diamond Jubilees, the first weekend in June has been designated for the celebration due to better weather.

Australia will also take part in the celebration by lighting a Platinum Jubilee Beacon in Canberra.
