A recently found newspaper clipping from 1997 shows Jacinda Ardern always had big dreams for herself.

The news article was written as she won a speechmaking award and the then "sixth-former" at the Mirronsville College shared her goals.

She said that she wanted to be New Zealand's first female Prime Minister.

Ardern is currently the second New Zealand woman to be Prime Minister, but the article has gone viral on Twitter.

Ardern won the Waikato regional competition of the United Nations Association of New Zealand speech contest, with her speech focusing on drug usage and the measures that need to be taken within society.

"My argument was that the UN needs to allocate far more resources to the situation," Ardern says in the interview.

After she won the competition, she delivered her speech to members of the UN in an annual conference.

It'd be 11 years later when she made history as the first female world leader to bring her child to the UN General Assembly meeting in New York.

She's also clearly taken her speech to heart, as she's introduced a strengthened approach to alcohol and drug addiction in New Zealand in July 2020.
