Meghan Markle shamed for her outfit on first public appearance with Harry
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made their first public appearance together at the Invictus Games in Toronto, Canada.
All eyes were on the couple, who have been dating for more than a year, but have not been publicly sighted in their time together.
On the Saturday, Markle donned an elegant maroon dress, but on Monday – Day 3 of the games – she toned it down with a much more casual look. And people aren’t too pleased.
The actress wore a white button-down shirt half-tucked into a pair of blue jeans with one ripped knee.
While some thought Markle’s casual look was relatable and stylish (ripped jeans are on trend currently), others felt that someone who is in a relationship with a member of the royal family shouldn’t be dressed so casually, especially for her first public appearance with the prince.
“I think she would have wanted to look smarter in keeping with who she hopes to be — obviously not bred to be a Royal more a commoner like the rest of us!” someone wrote on Facebook.
“There are people in the world who have to wear ripped clothes as they are too poor to buy new clothes. Then you have those with more money than sense who buy ripped clothes and think it’s fashionable,” wrote another.
Another said: “Meghan Markle's first official appearance w/ Prince Harry, all eyes on her - and she wears ripped jeans?”
In the end though, Prince Harry, also dressed casually in a Invictus Games polo shirt and dark jeans, didn’t seem to mind what his girlfriend was wearing. And that’s all that matters.
