The phone call that had the Queen giggling

Queen Elizabeth II has had a chuckle while participating in a video call with members of the British Armed Forces.

A new video has been released of the Queen’s video call with the Chief of the Defense Staff, General Sir Nicholas Carter and three service personnel from the British Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force.

Hearing from Lieutenant Colonel Barrie Terry (on a UN Peacekeeping mission in Mali), Able Rate Sophie Levy (deployed onboard the RFA Argus in the Caribbean) and Lance Corporal Shanwayne Stephens (a member of the Queen’s Colour Squadron), the monarch asked the personnel about their work and activities outside the forces.

When Stephens told Her Majesty that he is the pilot for the Jamaican national bobsled team, she gasped and giggled. “Gosh! Sounds a very dangerous job,” she said.

Stephens also added that he resorted to “unorthodox” training regime while gyms were closed during the coronavirus lockdown. “I’ve been pushing a car up and down the street,” he said.

The Queen giggled again, saying: “Oh! Well, I suppose that’s one way to train.”

Stephens later told HELLO! the monarch appeared to be “very relaxed” during the call. “She was really smiley, she looked like she was eager to meet people and hear people’s stories,” he said.

“She had a big smile on her face when I said about pushing the car. I think she was quite impressed with that. She was quite amused at my training regime.”

The monarch serves as the commander-in-chief of the British Armed Forces.
