5 tips for dressing for a summer holiday

How to dress in your 60s should be totally up to you! So don’t let “rules” about style dictate what you can and can’t wear, especially when you’re living it up in the sun. Here are five tips for summer holiday dressing that don’t focus on your age, but on the practicality of your suitcase.

Remember: Light, comfortable pieces

One of the biggest mistakes we can make when packing is over planning complicated outfits. At home, you may be thinking about what belt goes with what pants bur in reality when your digging through your bag between a day cruise and dinner, you’re only looking for one thing – comfort!

Lightweight dresses and skirts will always be winners, so pack as many of these as you can. Not only will they save room in your suitcase, you can make them look different with hats, colourful sandals and eclectic pieces of jewellery you find on your way.

Evaluate you swimming costume

Whoever said that you have to throw away your bikini before 60… is probably under 60! So what would they know? We’re not telling you what to do. The important this is for you to feel comfortable in your chosen swim wear. If you don’t feel confident in front of the mirror at home, then chances are you won’t at the beach.

The key to swimwear is always accessories. Opt for a sarong so you can tie it like a skirt or put it around your shoulders or grab some matching board shorts.

Pack leggings

Summer locations don’t always stay warm around the clock, especially if you’re on a cruise or near the water. Versify your summer outfits by taking along a couple of pairs of simple leggings. They’re thicker than tights so they’ll provide warmth in a chilly evening breeze, give good coverage for your legs and will be more modest for dinnertime.

Don’t just wear them as trousers though, this is rarely a good look. Wear under skirts, dresses, kaftans or possible very long tops.

Colour, colour, colour!

Are you someone that sticks to the basics (black, white, grey) at home? Now is your time to venture out. You’re guaranteed to be feeling a little more playful when sipping a Pina colada out of a pineapple, so take a chance on the orange sun dress. It will make for a much better postcard for the family.

Invest in the staples

Hat, sunglasses, handbag. These are the things you won’t be able to leave the hotel without so invest in some solid pieces. That way, even if you’re down to wearing hubby’s T-shirts and board shorts, you’ll probably still look like your fabulous self.

Your hat and sunglasses should be comfortable, light and perfectly fit for your face shape. Your handbag should probably be small-so that you don’t get stuck carrying everyone else’s cameras.
