Why the Queen may not attend Princess Beatrice’s wedding

Queen Elizabeth might not be able to attend her granddaughter Princess Beatrice's wedding due to Coronavirus fears.

With just 11 weeks to go until Beatrice weds property developer Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, at St James Palace in London, the UK is struggling to navigate in a world plagued by a pandemic.

While the country is grappling with the COVID-19 health crisis, there is talk Her Majesty may have no choice but to skip out on attending her granddaughter’s nuptials for the sake of her health.

As of Tuesday morning, 1391 people have been tested positive with the virus, and 35 have lost their lives as a result.

The 93-year-old monarch announced last week she would be cancelling all meetings and public engagements within the seven days due to the outbreak.

“As a sensible precaution and for practical reasons in the current circumstances, changes are being made to the Queen’s diary commitments in the coming weeks,” a statement from Buckingham Palace revealed.

“In consultation with the medical household and government, Her Majesty’s forthcoming visits to Cheshire and Camden will be rescheduled,” the Palace statement continued. “Audiences will continue as usual.”

To make matters worst, there are several reports believing the Queen may take another precaution and ask her granddaughter to cancel the wedding.

While it would definitely cheer up royal family members to watch one of their own be wed, there is only disaster clouding the nuptials in the wake of COVID-19.

It wouldn't be the only royal engagement not being seen through to the end however as Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, announced that they would be pulling out of a tour to Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Republic of Cyprus and Jordan.

The British government is attempting to limit the number of infected patients in the coming days and weeks, by introducing new measures. This may include demands for elderly people to self-isolate.

This means Her Majesty and her husband Prince Philip may be forced to self-quarantine in Windsor Castle or even Sandringham, as they are in their nineties and are of high risk.

England's Chief Medical Officer Chris Whitty said in a statement that the virus outbreak will have a peak in approximately 10 to 14 weeks, and with Beatrice's wedding just a mere 11 weeks away, this could spell disaster.

Queen Elizabeth’s cancelled visits included a trip to the Camden area of London and to Cheshire in northwest England.
