Fans of Sam Armytage were surprised and devastated to learn that the co-host was leaving Sunrise after being by David Koch's side for the last eight years.

She said that she's leaving to find some "peace and calm".

"I want to take a break and find some peace and calm. I go out of this job at a time of my own choosing and on top of the ratings, which not many people on television can say they do," she explained.

Despite leaving Sunrise, Channel Seven has confirmed that she's not leaving the network altogether, as an official statement confirmed "new projects" in the works.

"She will remain a valued part of the network, with new projects to be announced at a later stage," the statement said.

As Armytage already writes for The Sunday Telegraph's Stellar and recently launched a new podcast with Newscorp called Something To Talk About, fans are wondering if she's trying to branch out into radio.

Others are certain that she is going to embrace the quiet life she wants with her husband, Richard Lavender in the NSW Southern Highlands.

"I want to step out of this public world for a while and take some time to calm things down, enjoy a bit of slow living and spend some time with my precious family and my husband and [her pet dog] Banjo," the 44-year-old explained in her tearful goodbye.

Last but not least, the political fans of Armytage's are hoping she goes into politics.

An insider spoke to Woman's Day about her possible move into politics, saying she was "making all the right moves for a shift".

"She's particularly passionate about the bush, and a natural progression for her now would be a move into local council as a member and take the steady climb up the ladder – maybe all the way to Canberra!"

"It's becoming clear Sam has what it takes," the insider continued.

"She loves her local Southern Highlands community and would do anything to help the locals."

As of yet, nothing has been confirmed, so it's a waiting game for fans to see her next move.
