A poem about Aussie BBQs

Barbecues

In our Oz land, we have barbecues,

A foible of rituals for me and you,

First, chicks have to buy the food,

Then clean up the barbecues,

Then we have to make salads and sweets,

And wash glasses and plates, there’s heaps,

Then the hunter in the family,

Whinges as he sears meat tenderly,

Then he collapses dead drunk,

Wonder she doesn’t shoot his trunk,

Now, chicks have to clean up food,

Clean and wipe down barbecue,

Wash more plates and glasses after barbecue,

Then the male awakes to say,

“Aren’t you glad I cooked today?”

Husbands get shot in suburbia this way,

“What’s for tea?” You hear him say,

“Food!” all the chicks silently pray…
