The younger generations WANT your advice

It seems the old adage “older and wiser” rings as true as ever with a recent survey by Australian Hearing finding that nine out of 10 Australians believe seniors are a trusted source of wisdom and often turn to older folks, like parents and grandparents, for sound advice.

After surveying 1,000 people about their sources of advice, Australian Hearing found seniors were frequently consulted about the philosophies of living life (61 per cent), how to treat others (59 per cent) and on relationship matters (59 per cent.)

The nation’s favourite pearls of wisdom learnt from older generation, according to votes, are:

  1. If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all.
  2. Good manners don’t cost a thing.
  3. Do unto others what you would like them to do to you.
  4. Money can’t buy you happiness.
  5. Practice makes perfect.
  6. You have to take the good with the bad.
  7. A smile will get you a long way.
  8. Life’s about balance.
  9. There’s no such word as can’t.
  10. What goes up, must come down.

And while sometimes it seems when you’re talking to grandkids it seems to go in one ear and out the other, don’t stop! Not only are they (hopefully) subconsciously absorbing all your sage knowledge, one day they’ll come running to nanna or pop for trusted advice only those who’ve had years of life experience under their belt can dispense.
