Edwina Bartholomew's warning for mums to be
Edwina Bartholomew has called out influencers on Instagram for spreading misinformation about the COVID-19 jab.
The Sunrise presenter, who recently announced her pregnancy, is urging pregnant women to ignore the slew of anti-vaxxers online and speak to a medical professional.
On Wednesday morning's show, the 38-year-old said she faced backlash from anti-vaxxers after sharing that she had received a dose of the Pfizer vaccine.
“I posted on my Instagram about vaccines and pregnancy this morning and a number of Instagram influencers fired right back,” she told viewers.
“For God sake, don’t take your advice from Instagram influencers, don’t take it from me either, speak to your GP, speak to your midwife, your obstetrician, the health experts in your life.”
Edwina shared the photo of her newly-vaccinated arm, and captioned the image with health facts from the NSW Health website.
Her vaccine plea comes as there is mounting concern that pregnant women
can experience severe disease if they contract the virus.
“Pregnant people have a higher risk of severe illness from COVID-19 and their babies have a higher risk of being born prematurely,” according to the federal health department.
The Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) has recommended Pfizer as the preferred COVID-19 vaccine for women at any stage during their pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
