"My beautiful man": Patti Newton's tribute on Bert's 85th birthday
Celebrating the eternal love of Patti Newton and her beloved Bert, Patti took to Instagram to honour the memory of her late, legenday husband on what would have been his 85th birthday.
In a tender gesture, Patti shared an adorable snapshot of the couple, capturing a moment when she was wrapped securely in Bert's arms. Alongside the photo, she penned, "Miss you everyday, my beautiful man. Happy Birthday, always in our hearts. Love you."
Award-winning entertainer and Dancing With The Stars judge Tod McKenney was quick to chime in with an affectionate comment, writing "Love to you Patti. ❤️❤️❤️ I think of Bert so often with such fondness. I’m dedicating my performance as the Wizard in Wicked to Bert. I better do a good job. Lol. Xxx"
Though Bert's physical presence is dearly missed since his passing in October 2021, Patti's heart remains filled with cherished memories and everlasting love for him.
Opening up about the challenges she faces after losing her soulmate, Patti spoke candidly to 9Honey on Mother's Day in May, revealing the depth of her emotions. "I'll never get over him not being here," she said at the time. "I've got photographs everywhere, and I have a chat with him most nights."
Their extraordinary relationship, a beautiful tapestry of laughter, love and resilience, is something Patti holds dear. "We had a wonderful relationship," she said. "We had ups and downs like everybody has, but we did have a fabulous marriage. We came together, and we always had a laugh, and I think that's probably what I miss the most."
Since Bert's passing, Patti has bravely embraced life while grappling with grief, determined not to be consumed by it. She finds strength in the memories they shared, a reminder of the love that will forever bind them.
"People say, 'My mum lost Dad and she never leaves the house, she never puts makeup on, she never wants to go anywhere or do anything and she's become an old lady'," Patti reflected, "Well, that isn't me. Either I'm going to die with Bert or I'm going to keep living, and I think he would want me to keep living."
Bert and Patti's love story is one for the ages, a golden couple who walked hand-in-hand for 46 extraordinary years. They exchanged vows in Camberwell on November 9, 1974, and together, they lovingly nurtured two beautiful children, Lauren and Matthew.
As we celebrate what would have been Bert's 85th birthday, we are reminded that love knows no boundaries, not even those of time and space. Patti's heartfelt tribute serves as a touching reminder of the eternal bond they shared and the love that continues to shine brightly in her heart.
