Oprah responds to Lilibet godmother rumours

Now the guessing game over what Prince Harry and Meghan would name their second child is over, fans have turned their focus to another matter: The godparents.

Though it seems unlikely the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will publicly confirm their daughter Lilibet's godparents, online speculation points to Oprah Winfrey making the list.

Now, the TV icon has addressed the rumours, telling Entertainment Tonight she "doesn't need" to be named godmother to Lili because of the role she'll play in her life anyway.

"I'm a godmother by default, you know, I'm a neighbour, I'm a friend and all that," Oprah, who lives close to the Sussexes in Montecito, California, tells host Kevin Frazier.

With a knowing look down the lens, she adds, "I think you probably need someone younger to be the godmother because... you know..."

Oprah continued to say she is "so happy" for the Duke and Duchess, whom she bonded with after attending their wedding in 2018.

Speaking of the couple's decision to call their daughter Lilibet Diana, a tribute to Queen Elizabeth and Princesss Diana, she tells Frazier, "I love that name."

Oprah has shown support openly to Harry and Meghan over the years, especially after they resigned as working royals in 2020.
