Princess Eugenie shares rare photo of Buckingham Palace in tribute to father Prince Andrew
Princess Eugenie has shared a photo from within the walls of Buckingham Palace, giving fans a sneak peek of life as a royal.
The 28-year-old shared a photo of her father, Prince Andrew, in honour of his first Trooping the Colour as Colonel in Chief of the Grenadier Guards. Queen Elizabeth II bestowed the honour upon her son earlier this year, in March.
“A wonderful and proud day celebrating Her Majesty’s birthday and @hrhthedukeofyork for his first Trooping the Colour as Colonel of the Grenadier Guards #troopingthecolour,” Eugenie captioned the photo.
The 58-year-old Duke of York is seen posing in his uniform in a hallway of paintings.
This year was also special for the royal family as it was Meghan Markle’s debut on the Buckingham Palace balcony for the Queen’s birthday parade.
The Trooping the Colour ceremony is an annual British tradition where military troops show off their flags (or colours) and march throughout the Buckingham Palace square.
Princess Eugenie appeared on the iconic balcony on the weekend alongside her sister Princess Beatrice and father Prince Andrew, as well as many other members of the royal family.
Unlike the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Eugenie is allowed to maintain her own social media account.
Eugenie, who is eighth in line to the throne, is believed to be active on social media as she doesn’t have a formal working role with the royal family. She does sometimes accompany her father on official duties and engagements.
Eugenie uses her Instagram to share photos of her family as well as her fiancé Jack Brooksbank, who she will wed on October 12 in St George’s Chapel.
Eugenie uses her royal profile to raise awareness about issues close to her heart, such as scoliosis – a condition she was diagnosed with that causes a person’s spine to curve. She previously thanked her sister for encouraging her to not get disheartened despite her diagnosis.
“As my big sister, you inspire me,” Eugenie shared at the 2018 We Day U.K. Charity Concert. “I love that, as a team, we work hard to support each other — no matter what. When I was 12, I was diagnosed with, and treated for, scoliosis and I have lived with two 12-inch metal rods in my back. It could have impacted my life and stopped me from doing the things I love.
“You encouraged me not to get disheartened. Not to give up. To live fearlessly. Today, I am so lucky to get to work with and support other young women who are going through the same thing. To encourage them not to let their diagnosis win. To live fearlessly too."
