In 2006, Australia and the world were shocked at the news, after it was announced The Crocodile Hunter had passed away. His funeral took place at Australia Zoo and was watched by over 300 million people around the globe.

The 44-year-old was praised for spreading awareness and information about wild animals.

He said of his work: “I consider myself a wildlife warrior. My mission is to save the world’s endangered species.”

Irwin constantly encouraged people to mindful of considerate tourism and used his influence to speak out against animal poaching.

Sir David Attenborough agreed with those sentiments and added: “He taught them how wonderful and exciting it was, he was a born communicator.”
