"The secret's out!": Project star's joyous news
The Project’s Rachel Corbett has shared some happy news, announcing she is pregnant with her first child.
The 41-year-old journalist said she could “no longer hold it in” on Wednesday night’s episode, with the news delighting her co-hosts.
“I can no longer hold it in as the wardrobe department is sick of trying to hide it,” she said.
“I’m pregnant!”
Throwing her hands up in the air, co-hosts Carrie Bickmore, Waleed Aly and Peter Heliar responded with cheers, confetti and a hug for Corbett.
Corbett explained that she was having her first child on her own, and that it was the “perfect decision” for her despite people’s perceptions.
“I’m doing it solo, which is great for me, but you find when you tell people it’s hilarious because they think it’s a choice of last resort,” she continued.
“Then you have to spend the next 30 minutes explaining you’re not crying yourself to sleep at night. But for me it’s the perfect decision.
“It feels like exactly the right thing to do and I’m really excited.”
She also revealed that she will be having a baby girl.
After the episode, Corbett posted a video of the wholesome moment on social media.
“The secret’s out… and Waleed blew his nuts off with a glitter cannon to celebrate 🎉,” she captioned the clip.
In a follow-up post, Corbett shared a sweet snap of her and Bickmore hugging and holding hands over her belly and a message praising Bickmore.
“No turning back now! 🤰🏻,” she wrote.
“Here’s hoping I can manage the family/career juggle half as impressively as you have @bickmorecarrie (and with 3, you bloody show off) xx.”
Celebrities were quick to congratulate Corbett, with fellow Project star Lisa Wilkinson writing, “So happy for you Rach. Such a lucky bub xx”.
“Congratulations beautiful human!!!! So so sooooo happy for you!!!” Casey Donavan commented.
Angie Kent said: “Amazing!!!!!! This is goals!! I feel this on so many levels!! If you can do it on your own… why wouldn’t ya! That baby is going to be soooo loved! Congrats queen!”
