Top 10 dog breeds revealed
The ten most popular dog breeds have been revealed, with the Cavoodle coming out on top.
Poodle crosses were a popular choice overall, as the Groodle and Labradoodle also made the list.
Cavoodles were just in front of the Golden Retriever, followed by the French Bulldog, Golden Doodle or Groodle and the Border Collie.
Pet Insure Australia compiled the list based on dog breeds born and insured throughout 2022.
Nadia Crighton from Pet Insurance Australia said the statistics give a “lovely insight” into the types of pets Aussies are welcoming into their homes, with a “great” combination of purebred and mixed breeds.
Crighton said it’s important for people looking to adopt a pet to research different types of breeds to see if they’re suited to their lifestyle.
“Particularly with dogs, different breeds require different levels of exercise. Some simply adore a Netflix binge on the couch, while others will require a decent amount of exercise to keep them happy and healthy,” she said.
“We always encourage people to look past the atheistic qualities of a pet and make sure their typical breed traits suit your household.”
Chrighton also recommended considering adopting a pet even if you have a particular breed in mind.
“Contact local breeders who offer rehoming services or call your local shelter can allow you to offer a pet a forever home while obtaining the pet of your dreams,” she said.
