When it comes to fine dining, truffles are up there alongside caviar and lobster.

Truffles can often cost thousands of dollars per kilo. This is why fine food lovers will be excited to hear Aldi is once again selling them at a heavily discounted price.

The popular supermarket chain is selling a jar of two truffles for just $6.99, with the return of its Deli Originals Italian Truffles.

It is part of a limited time Special Buys run which is sparking a lot of excitement. For the uninitiated, truffles are a “a type of strong odorous mushroom that amplifies the umami level of anything you pair it with, whether it be savoury or sweet”.

Sydney food blogger Adrian Widjonarko told news.com.au.

“It is very difficult to grow, find and store, and as such it can cost over $2000 per kilo,” he said.

Mr Widjonarko shared the news with his 133,000 TikTok followers last week, saying he “can’t believe you can get truffle for $6.99”.

“Run to Aldi people, it’s now available again,” Adrian said in the video, which has been viewed 59,000 times.

“This truffle is super affordable for $6.99, perfect for taste test.”

Truffle lovers who watched the TikTok were also excited by the news, advising others to hurry to the supermarket so they don’t miss out.
