America claims to have invented the sausage roll
America has claimed it has come up with an amazing new food combination of a sausage wrapped in pastry. They’re calling it the “puff dog” but you may better know it as the “sausage roll”.
The sausage roll is a staple British savoury snack popular throughout Commonwealth nations, including Australia.
But US supermarket giant Trader Joe’s have just released the puff dogs in time for hot dog season and they’re claiming, “this marriage of beefy and buttery is pretty genius”.
They say it’s “a twist on the classic dog-meets-dough pairing of the hot dog” and “instead swaddled in a perfectly flaky-when-cooked puff pastry”.
But as we all know the sausage roll has been enjoyed in the UK and Australia for more than a century. In fact, the sausage roll was first mentioned in British newspaper The Times back in 1863.
We’d even go so far as to say that the sausage roll is up there with the pie when it comes to classic Aussie foods.
And trust the Americans to butcher a delicious food item… we don’t like the look of that “puff dog” at all.
