Budget ALDI wine beats $100 reds

An ALDI wine has taken two prestigious awards at the 2020 Royal Adelaide Wine Show.

The Blackstone Paddock Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 took home the Max Schubert AM Trophy for Most Outstanding Red Wine in Show, which is considered to be one of the most important trophies in the Australian wine industry.

The wine also won the Professor A J Perkins Trophy for Best Cabernet Sauvignon in Show.

The wine, at just $17.99, beat out many other wines that were priced at more than $100 from Coonawarra and Margaret River regions for the top honour.

ALDI wines won two trophies, two gold, two silver and six bronzes at the event, which tops off a successful wine awards season for the German supermarket.

The supermarket's $8.99 Venturer Series Riverina Durif 2019 took home the Best Riverina Durif Trophy at the 2020 Riverina Wine Show.
