Cherry Danish
Satisfy your sweet tooth with these delicious layered pastry desserts, filled with irresistible cherry filling.
Ingredients:
- 15g of active dry yeast
- 6 cups of flour
- 1/3 cup of sugar
- 2 teaspoons of salt
- ½ cup warm 2% milk
- 1 cup of butter
- 1 ½ cups of warm half and half cream
- 6 egg yolks
- 1 can of cherry filling
Icing
- 3 cups of powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons of butter
- ¼ teaspoon of vanilla extract
- Salt
- 4 tablespoons of half and half cream
Method:
- In a bowl, add milk and yeast. Dissolve yeast.
- In a separate bowl, mix flour, sugar and salt. Add butter and mix.
- Add yeast and milk mixture and yolks. Mix into dough.
- Cover and chill overnight.
- Knead dough on a floured surface. Divide into quarters.
- Roll out each section into 45cm x 10cm rectangles then cut rectangles into strips measuring 10cm x 2.5cm.
- Take two strips, setting them side by side. Twist them together and form into a ring shape, pinching the ends together. Repeat for all strips.
- Line a baking pan with baking paper.
- Place Danishes on baking sheet. Cover and let rise for 45 minutes or until doubled in size.
- Preheat oven to 175°C.
- Create a cavity in the centre of each Danish using the handle of a wooden spoon.
- Fill each indent with 1 tablespoon of cherry filling.
- Bake for 15 minutes or until golden.
- Let cool.
- To make the icing, combine powdered sugar, butter, vanilla, cream and a pinch of salt and beat together. Drizzle over Danishes and serve.
