Cherry Danish

Satisfy your sweet tooth with these delicious layered pastry desserts, filled with irresistible cherry filling.

Ingredients:

Method:

  1. In a bowl, add milk and yeast. Dissolve yeast.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix flour, sugar and salt. Add butter and mix.
  3. Add yeast and milk mixture and yolks. Mix into dough.
  4. Cover and chill overnight.
  5. Knead dough on a floured surface. Divide into quarters.
  6. Roll out each section into 45cm x 10cm rectangles then cut rectangles into strips measuring 10cm x 2.5cm.
  7. Take two strips, setting them side by side. Twist them together and form into a ring shape, pinching the ends together. Repeat for all strips.
  8. Line a baking pan with baking paper.
  9. Place Danishes on baking sheet. Cover and let rise for 45 minutes or until doubled in size.
  10. Preheat oven to 175°C.
  11. Create a cavity in the centre of each Danish using the handle of a wooden spoon.
  12. Fill each indent with 1 tablespoon of cherry filling.
  13. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden.
  14. Let cool.
  15. To make the icing, combine powdered sugar, butter, vanilla, cream and a pinch of salt and beat together. Drizzle over Danishes and serve.
