Homemade churros
Craving something sweet? Mix things up with these easy-to-make deep fried churros and chocolate sauce.
You will need:
- 1.5cm piping tube and bag
Ingredients:
- ⅓ cup of caster sugar
- 1 tablespoon of caster sugar, extra
- 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- 1 cup of flour
- 2 litres of vegetable oil
- 1cup of water
Sauce
- ¾ cup of thickened cream
- 180g of dark chocolate, chopped
Method:
- Line a baking tray with baking paper.
- In a bowl, mix caster sugar and cinnamon.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, mix water, olive oil and one tablespoon of sugar and bring to a boil.
- Add flour and stir. The mixture should form a ball of dough. Remove from heat.
- Add vegetable oil to a deep fryer and heat to 180°C.
- Place dough in piping bag and squeeze into strips, cutting the ends.
- Place a few strips into deep fryer and cook for three to five minutes or until golden.
- Remove from heat and let drain over a wire rack before rolling in cinnamon and sugar mixture while still warm.
- Repeat for all dough.
- To make the sauce, in a small saucepan, bring cream near to a boil. Add chocolate and stir until mixed and smooth.
- Serve as dip with warm churros.
