Recalled Aldi item leaves six with severe burns

Thousands of Aldi customers are being urged to return a product which was officially recalled in August, but which is still causing injuries.

The $60 Crofton Chef’s Collection 6L Pressure Cooker, which went on sale on June 28 this year, was recalled on August 2 after “exploding” and causing second-to-third-degree burns to users, who were sprayed with liquids of over 100 degrees Celsius.

“The recall is due to the lid locking mechanism, which may be defective, causing the lid to detach when cooking,” the recall announcement read. “Customers should return the product to the place of purchase for a full cash refund. We apologise for any inconvenience.”

Despite this, thousands of customers are yet to return the faulty product and according to reports from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission obtained by consumer group Choice, four more injuries have occurred since the recall was issued.

Aldi is urging those who purchased the product to return it “immediately” instore and receive a full refund.
