Woolies boss reveals the one thing that annoys customers the most

Woolworths CEO Brad Banducci has revealed his customers biggest pet peeve, as well as the steps he’s taking to make sure it never happens again.

“If you want to upset a customer, don’t have bread,” he told Fairfax at the National Retailers Federation expo in New York City.

But Banducci says he’s eyeing up new technology to ensure all the things consumers hate most about grocery shopping will become things of the past.

One such system uses cameras and image recognition software to monitor product levels on shelves, so they can be refilled before they run out completely. After all, there’s nothing more annoying than taking a trip to the supermarket to pick up that one item you forgot on your weekly shop only to find it’s out of stock.

The supermarket giant also recently rolled out a suite of cutting-edge tech to its Marrickville Metro store, including touch screens which tell bakery staff what they need to bake and when, plus an app to help customers locate specific products in-store.

“Technology has become crucial to the future of retail,” Banducci said. “This is the key for us.”
