4 steps to update pine furniture

Spring is only a few weeks away so now is the time to get your home and outdoor areas ready so you can take full advantage of the good weather when it arrives. Truth time… what does your outdoor area look like? Is it ready for alfresco dining? If your answer falls someone in the catergory of: "The space is looking under loved", you’re not alone. The good news is that you can turn it around with minimal effort. Follow these simple steps to breathe new life into your pine furniture.

1. Take pine furniture back to its raw state by sandpapering it so you have a blank canvas to work with. If sandpapering by hand sounds too tricky, you can hire electric sandpaper machines by the day.

2. Either paint your furniture with a rich stain in dark wood polish or opt for a bright, solid colour or two colours, which complement each other. Just be sure to buy paint suitable for outdoor furniture.

3. If something vintage looking is more your style, try a lime wash or whitewash.

4. To add interest to your outdoor furniture, consider buying outdoor cushions for your chairs – stripes are big for the season ahead. And if you’re outdoor table has an umbrella that looks a little tired, it might be time for a new one. These little details make a big impact to the overall aesthetics of your outdoor area.
