How clean is your dishwasher? Use our 6-step guide to be on the safe side

It might sounds strange but the machine that’s responsible for cleaning your dirty dishes (yes, the one that is full of hot water and soap every night), needs a regular clean out too.

Follow our step-by-step guide to get your dishwasher sparkling clean. Note: It’s best to do this process every month to keep your dishwasher in top shape.

Step 1
When you have just finished a cycle, remove all of the dishes. Then take out any racks, baskets, filters, spinning arms, and any other removable parts.

Step 2
Wash all of the removable parts in warm soapy water. Ensure that the water can get through the holes in the spinning arms. These can get clogged up with little particles of dirt and grime (or small bits of food such as oats or chia seeds). You may need to use a toothpick or needle to get right in and remove anything stubborn.

Step 3
Get yourself a hot soapy cloth and clean the bottom of the inside of the dishwasher door. The water doesn’t hit this part and it can be a trap for grease and grime.

Step 4
Now clean the outside of the door, on the sides especially as this is another hang out for grime. Give the control panel a spray with some cleaner and give it a once over with a cloth. Grab a toothpick and get into any grooved parts of the dishwasher that look grubby.

Step 5
Drain any water from the bottom of the dishwasher. Get yourself an old toothbrush to do some scrubbing. Wet it and then dip it in some baking soda. Use this to scrub around the drain.

Step 6
Freshen up the inside of the dishwasher by running a cycle with a cup of white vinegar in the bottom of the dishwasher and another cup in the top.
