How to make your own lavender soap (it’s very easy)

For a fun craft idea, why not try our guide to making your own soaps.

Rather than making them from scratch we have cheated a little by buying a ready-made soap base from a craft shop, which can be melted in the microwave.

Lavender is a great choice for soap as it is known to help reduce stress and is an aid for relaxation. Plus it smells terrific.

You will need:

How to:

1. Chop your soap base block and place into a microwave safe bowl. Heat for two minutes and then check to see if it is melted. Heat for longer if needed until the soap base is completely melted.

2. Gently stir the soap to check that is has all melted. Don’t stir too vigorously or you will get bubbles in your mixture. If this happens you can remove the bubbles with a spoon. Add around four drops of dye and stir to combine.

3. Add the lavender oil and stir again to mix.

4. Add the dried lavender (if using) as decoration and gently mix in.

5. Pour the mixture into your moulds and leave to set for 24 hours.

6. Pop the soaps out of the moulds and allow to air dry.
