How solar power can save you money
With the cost of household energy on the rise, many people are considering installing their very own solar panels as a way to keep costs down. But it can be confusing when trying to understand just how solar energy can save you money on your energy bills. So we’ve explained a few things in an effort to clear up the confusion.
Daytime energy use
If you spend a lot of time at home each day, or find that you get most of your energy-sapping chores done during daylight hours, then solar power could help slash your energy bill. Because battery storage for solar power is still being developed, the best way for you to get the most of solar panels is to maximise your energy usage during the day, and minimise what you use at night. So doing things like running the dishwasher, air conditioning, or pool pump when the sun’s out means you’re using your free solar energy, rather than adding to your quarterly bill.
When it gets dark
The good thing is, even when the sun’s gone to bed, your solar panels are still working for you. Any excess energy that you produce during the day is fed back into the electricity grid, and you receive a credit. So at night, a certain amount, maybe all, of the energy you use could be free.
