How to watercolour your fabrics
You can transform any simple white fabric into works of art with this simple, easy watercolour technique. Create beautiful sheets, pillows, tablecloths… you name it!
You will need:
- Watercolour paints (does not have to be fabric paint)
- White fabric
- ¼ cup fabric medium (Note: allows your paint to set on fabric)
- 2 cups of water
- 2 Paint brushes
How to:
- Fill two cups half way with water. In one cup add a quarter cup of fabric medium. The other is for your paints.
- Wet your watercolour paints with your brush and paint your fabric. More water = less colour pigment. Experiment with your painting techniques. You can try wetting your fabric first for a more blended look.
- Using your other paintbrush, paint the entire canvas with fabric medium/water. This will help blend the colours.
- To set your wet, painted fabric, put it in the dryer on high or allow to air dry and iron.
- Check your fabric medium for wash/care instructions.
