Cassandra Thorburn shares mental health struggle during “awful time” in marriage
Cassandra Thorburn has shared her struggle with mental health during her marriage with Karl Stefanovic.
Speaking on her podcast Divorce Story: Surviving Separation this week, Thorburn said she sought professional help during an “awful time” in her relationship with the Today show co-host.
“When I was having a really awful time in my marriage, I went to my GP, and requested a mental health plan,” she said.
“Because relationship stress has such a huge impact on your health and mental health, I was able to get 10 [therapy] sessions at a very reduced rate.”
She also said she had trouble carrying out daily tasks following the separation.
“You get yourself out the door with the kids to go to school … I had children, they had to go to school,” she said.
“You get them there. I would literally crawl to the back door and lie on the floor until it was time to pick them up again.”
Earlier this week, Thorburn told The Kyle and Jackie O Show she was “glad it’s not me” when she found out Stefanovic was expecting a baby with Jasmine Yarbrough.
“I thought, ‘I’m glad it’s not me!’” she said. “To be honest, that’s all I thought.”
Thorburn and Stefanovic ended their 21-year marriage in 2017. They share three children.
