Julie Bishop breaks her silence on break-up with David Panton
Julie Bishop has broken her silence on her high-profile break-up with long-term boyfriend David Panton.
The former foreign minister appeared on The Today Show to discuss her new ambassador role with Perth-based mining services company Mineral Resources Limited.
At the beginning of the segment, Karl Stefanovic and Ally Langdon asked Julie how she was going after er relationship ended in such a public fashion just a few weeks ago.
“I‘m fine but I’m wondering how you two are doing,” the former Liberal member for Curtin said in response.
“I don‘t want to think about it too much, it is a Monday morning. As long as you’re OK.”
The hosts quickly moved on to discuss Bishop's promotional video for the mining company, in which she rubbed shoulders with Hollywood heavyweights Kate Walsh and Hugh Jackman.
David Panton ended his relationship with Julie at the start of the month after the pair had been together for eight years.
The NSW property developer told Ms Bishop on Friday July 1st that the relationship was over at the Eastbank restaurant on Macquarie St, Sydney, as reported by the Sydney Morning Herald.
The duo were at a gala dinner with Prince Charles the week when the break-up happened.
“I’m going to be focused on living in Manly and Melbourne for the foreseeable future,” Mr Panton said in a statement to the newspaper.
“I wish Julie all the best in her ongoing stellar career.”
Ms Bishop’s close circle had previously said she would not be making any comments on the issue.
