Lisa Wilkinson sweetly reveals how she met husband Peter FitzSimons

TV presenter Lisa Wilkinson has shared the lovely story of how she met her husband of almost three decades and it's all thanks to her fellow reporter Liz Hayes.

Wilkinson shared a sweet snap of herself and husband Peter FitzSimons in front of the Channel 9 studio buildings, which is where they met almost 30 years ago.

"Well this is one for the grandkids (which we don't have yet, by the way)...but I digress.," she began her caption.

She then goes on to explain how the duo met.

"It wasn't much more than a brief introduction and a handshake – we were both charmed, but also in separate relationships," she wrote. "Eighteen months later, and both now single, a special someone (thank you @thelizhayes) decided to play matchmaker and nine months after that, we were walking down the aisle."

The happy couple married in 1992 and now share three kids in their 20s, sons Jake and Louis and daughter Billi.

"Three kids, four changes of address, five animals, the occasional disagreement, and a million good times later, the marriage has survived," Wilkinson wrote.

Wilkinson explained her reason for sharing the touching story, as the building where they met is going to be demolished and redeveloped into an apartment building.

"So of course, we raced over today for a selfie out the front of the place that started it all for us. Sweet memories of another time."

She ended the story by thanking the photographer.

"A big thank you to the lovely young film student called Josh who was also there marking the occasion by taking photos (and kindly took ours), and who told us of his big dream of one day making it in the industry. We really hope you do, Josh."
