Luke Batty’s mother pens emotional tribute to her son
Few of us will come close to experiencing anything like the emotional pain Rosie Batty has been through. The mother of Luke Batty, the 11-year-old boy who was beaten to death with a cricket bat by his own father after practice, has penned a courageous, emotional tribute to her son on what would’ve been his 15th birthday.
The horrific event, which occurred in February 2014 old, saw his father Greg Anderson attack his son with a cricket bat and knife at a local sports oval after training.
Rosie, who has set up the Luke Batty Foundation in her son’s memory, shared her thoughts in a post to the organisation's Facebook page this week.
Rosie wrote, “Happy birthday to my beautiful Luke. We all miss you so much. I am celebrating you today. There's an entire community campaigning for change in your memory.”
Rosie has used the tragic tale to call for stricter laws protecting victims of family violence.
Anderson was reportedly only allowed to contact his son at cricket and football training, where the horrific event occurred. He was fatally shot by police after the attack.
On the Never Alone campaign page, Rosie wrote: “My son Luke was almost as tall as me. We’d just come back from holiday. He loved his sports. We were a team.
“But in February 2014, Luke was murdered by his own father at cricket practice.”
Our thoughts are with Rosie, as she struggles with something no parent should have to go through.
