Princess Mary's father-in-law reveals marriage secrets
From the outside looking in it’s easy to think the life of a royal family member is idyllic, but this latest piece of news is further proof that in reality it’s anything but.
Denmark’s Prince Henrik has lashed out at his wife, Queen Margrethe of Denmark, in a sensational interview with a gossip magazine, claiming she does “not respect” him.
The Prince, who is Princess Mary’s father-in-law, made headlines earlier this month when he announced he did not wish to be buried next to the Queen, which is normally the tradition for members of the Danish Monarchy.
The Prince spoke to Se og Hør weekly, expressing his dissatisfaction with the way he is treated, saying, “My wife does not give me the respect a normal wife must give her spouse.”
The 83-year-old stressed that he still loves his wife, but couldn’t get past the expectations of him being buried in the traditional resting place.
“It is her that is making a fool of me. I didn’t marry the Queen to be buried at Roskilde,” he said.
A statement from the royal house said: “The Queen has for some time been familiar with the decision of His Royal Highness and acknowledges the decision.
"The Prince’s decision does not change The Queen’s funeral plans. The Prince’s wish to be buried in Denmark remains, but the circumstances are not yet in place."
