The 4 types of couples revealed

Are you an independent couple that love doing your own thing, or one that thrives on drama? Your coupling style could have a bearing on whether you are more likely to make it for the long haul, according to a study from the University of Illinois.

Researchers studied 376 couples in their twenties for nine months and came up with four different types of couples. From there they were able to determine which were most likely to get married, and which would be more likely to break up.

See which type of couple you identify with to see if you can prove the research right or wrong – or are you part of the 5 per cent who didn’t fit into any of these categories?

1. Drama, drama, drama (34 per cent of couples)

Some couples don’t seem to actually spend very much time together, and appear to thrive on the ups and downs of their partnership. They tend to commit less to the relationship at the outset, and are twice as likely as the other types of couples to end in break up.

2. Tension and conflict (12 per cent of couples)

These are the on-again off-again couples that seem to have equal parts conflict and passion. In general, their commitment levels are good, but many people can’t sustain the high energy of this type of relationship for the long haul.

3. Social butterflies (19 per cent of couples)

These are the couples you see out and about together, who spend time together and seem to thrive in each other’s company. They tend to have a shared network of friends, which seems to strengthen their bond and chances of lasting the distance.

4. Partner-centric (30 per cent of couples)

These couples rely on each other and share a deep commitment to the relationship. These are the ones most likely to stay together as a married couple for the long haul.

Can you prove the study wrong? Are you a happily committed dramatic couple that has lasted the distance in marriage? We would love to hear from you in the comments.
