Where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will spend Valentine’s Day
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly planning to spend Valentine’s Day enjoying a romantic escape to Scotland.
On Wednesday, Kensington Palace announced the couple, who are set to marry at Windsor Castle in May, will visit Edinburgh on February 13.
The royal couple will make several appearances during their time in the Scottish capital, including engagements at Edinburgh Castle and attending a reception celebrating youth achievement.
While the palace didn’t officially confirm if the pair would remain in Scotland for Valentine’s Day, there are plenty of factors pushing for them to stay.
The 33-year-old Prince could easily arrange for the duo to stay in Balmoral Castle, the royal residence favoured by Queen Elizabeth when she’s on holiday.
Scotland is also famous for its luscious green scenery and impressive mountain ranges, making it the perfect setting for a romantic getaway from the city bustle.
No matter how Harry and Meghan spend the day, it will hold special significance for Meghan who has previously mentioned her love of the occasion.
The bride-to-be previously wrote on her now-defunct blog The Tig about how she is a “a sucker for Valentine’s Day”.
“Without fail, every February 14th, I wake up feeling like I’m immersed in a Robert Doisneau photo, waiting with bated breath to be dipped into a kiss," she shared.
"This is all happening in black and white, of course. And in Paris, if I had my way."
She added, “But delusions of francophile grandeur aside, Valentine’s Day is special wherever you happen to find yourself. And in terms of gifts, be it breakfast in bed, a sweet love note, or a single flower, it really is the thought that counts."
She also shared a few thoughts on the importance of self-love, especially on Valentine’s Day.
"It’s funny how a Hallmark holiday can bring up so many feelings for people – ebbing and flowing from the lovey dovey to the lonesome," she wrote in another post.
"Valentine’s day, with its tales of Cupid and swan song of chocolates and roses and saccharine sweetheart candies does just that. It’s a strangely divisive one. Where couples are cuddled up and singletons see their requisite froyo as a cup of lonely.
"But it doesn’t need to be. I think you need to be your own Valentine."
