Man who saved 669 Jewish children from Holocaust reunited with them 50 years later

In 1939, Sir Nicholas Winton saved the lives of 669 Jewish Czechoslovakian children destined for the Nazi concentration camps by organising their rescue and passage to Britain. An unassuming hero, he kept his role in the rescue secret for half-a-century – even from his family. When his wife discovered a scrapbook containing the names of the rescued children in 1988, she convinced him to share his story.

On an episode BBC’s That’s Life, Sir Winton was reunited with the people he saved. The 1988 clip of their reunion, shown above, will bring you to tears.

Sir Winton passed away in 2015.
