“Absolute farce”: Karl Stefanovic slams Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan’s resignation plan

Today show host Karl Stefanovic has dubbed Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan’s decision to quit as senior royals “an absolute farce”.

On Wednesday, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced their resignation as “senior” members of the royal family and plan to live between the United Kingdom and North America.

Stefanovic said the prince was “spitting the dummy” after being financially supported by the royal family.

“This is two people who have been ably supported and particularly Harry, by the British people for so long,” the 45-year-old presenter said on Thursday.

“This is him spitting the dummy and going, ‘Righto, I am out of here’. Does he think that the British people are going to like it?”

Stefanovic also expressed skepticism at the idea that the couple’s decision was motivated by a desire to maintain privacy and avoid attention from the press.

“This is modern media and a modern landscape,” he asked.

“Harry and Meghan are going to Canada and they won’t have any cameras outside their place?

“No one will take photos out there? There’s not going to be link trucks? And there’s not going to be satellite dishes? This is just an absolute farce.”

The royal couple spent a holiday in Canada over Christmas, where arrangements are reportedly being made to allow them to spend their time there for significant portions of the year.
