Black smoke causes Russian “nuclear war” scare
Residents of Moscow got a scare when a giant cloud of black smoke emerged above the buildings, prompting many to believe a nuclear war had begun.
The smoke was actually caused as a result of a heated oil spill in the Moskava River that was large enough to see from Red Square, the heart of the capital. The fire took around 15 minutes for firefighters to get under control.
The blaze caused a number of Muscovites to post pictures to social media, accompanied by exclamations of a fear of nuclear war.
According to reports, three members of a family, including a nine-year old boy, were injured as a result of the accident, and were taken to the hospital thereafter.
