Jessica Rowe reveals how she really feels about Valentine’s Day

“Nothing. No, no, no.”

That is how Jessica Rowe responded when 9Honey asked her what she and her news anchor husband Peter Overton would be doing on the most romantic day of the year: Valentine’s Day.

“Oh, listen to me,” she laughed. “We’ve been married for 16 years now. But Valentine’s Day … really?”

The TV personality and author is always refreshingly honest, and this time was no exception as she stated what most people are thinking every year on February 14 – that despite the red roses and feeling of love in the air, it’s all consumerism.

“I think it’s crap,” she giggles. “Can I say that? I think Valentine’s Day is crap.”

She’s all for people celebrating the occasion if that’s what they want to do, but she made it clear that she isn’t into it. The podcaster revealed that she doesn’t need giant teddies and hallmark cards to feel loved.

“I think it’s commercial nonsense,” she said without hesitation.

“Where florists charge way too much for roses, we put far too much pressure and expectation on people … it’s just absurd, especially when you work in an open plan office and you see all these deliveries for people, and you’re there thinking, ‘What about me, how come I’m not getting anything?’

“Honestly, Valentine’s Day, Schmalentine’s Day. It doesn’t make sense.”
