Prince William and Duchess Kate are heading to Australia
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are heading Down Under to tour bushfire ravaged towns.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, there has been back-and-forth discussions between the federal government and Kensington Palace for weeks, with Prime Minister Scott Morrison sending an official invite to formalise the deal.
The couple were among the many royals – including the Queen and Prince Philip and Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan – who offered their sympathies during the bushfire crisis in Australia.
“We continue to be shocked and deeply saddened to hear about the fires that are destroying homes and livelihoods and wildlife across much of Australia,” said the statement.
This tour will be the first joint trip William and Kate have made together to Australia since 2014.
It is believed that their itinerary will include towns along the east coast of Victoria and New South Wales, but nothing has been confirmed as of yet. It is also not known if their children would be joining them.
It is hoped that the high-profile couple’s visit will provide a significant international fundraising boost for the recovery effort.
