"Public health enemy No.1" continues to evade police

A man who tested positive for COVID has continued to elude police days after a warrant was issued for his arrest.

NSW Health told Anthony Karam, 27, he had coronavirus on August 18 and must undergo isolation.

However, Mr Karam reportedly defied orders and continued to carry out a non-isolated lifestyle in the community.

On Friday night, police called on the public for more information.

“Anthony has failed to isolate as directed by the Public Health Order and despite numerous attempts by police to find him; he has not been located,” a spokesperson said.

Police attempted to contact Karam through a third party to no avail.

He was last seen on CCTV footage inside an apartment complex’s elevator before vanishing.

Police say Karam sneezed multiple times during the footage obtained.

An order signed by Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant says Karam is a “risk to the health or safety of the public”.

“The community is warned to avoid contact with Mr Karam and not approach him”.
