Should Alan Jones be sacked over his ‘misogynistic’ attack on Jacinda Ardern?

Infamous radio star Alan Jones has been put under a microscope after he made offensive comments about Jacinda Ardern.

The shock jock has been warned, saying he will be sacked if his behaviour continues.

The statement came from Macquarie Media chairman Russell Tate on Saturday night, marking the strongest public statement from 2GB radio bosses since Jones said Ardern should have a sock shoved down her throat.

Mr Tate revealed that he had “advised” Jones that the days of him shocking viewers with his offensive words have come to an end.

When the comments were made, Jones stood by what he said and even repeated his scathing words against Ardern on-air.

But it didn’t take long for the 78-year-old to retract his statement, as he gave in and eventually apologised. The decision was made after it was discovered that sponsors began pulling their advertisements.

Jones apologised to the Prime Minister of New Zealand, saying his comments were “careless, unnecessary and wrong.”

“Notwithstanding his apologies, I have today discussed the matter with Alan and advised him that any recurrence of commentary of this nature will result in the termination of his contract,” said Mr Tate in a statement.

Jones originally launched a vicious attack on the politician for her stance on climate change, as she held Australian leaders responsible at the Pacific Islands Forum.

“She’s a clown, Jacinda Ardern. A complete clown,” said Jones.

“I just wonder whether Scott Morrison is going to be fully briefed to shove a sock down her throat.”

The comments were shut down by prominent figures including Scott Morrison and former prime minister Malcolm Turnbull. But Jones took no notice, as he continued to label Ardern as a “hypocrite” for her discussion on climate change.

However, by Friday night he had issued an apology on-air.
