The Queen embroiled in investment scandal

The royal family have been named in the “Paradise Papers”, a series of leaked documents sourced from an investigation by German Newspaper Suddeutsche Zeitung into the tax haven industry.

It’s alleged that the Queen, through the royal family’s private estate (the Duchy of Lancaster), holds investments in a controversial retailer called BrightHouse, which has been slammed for its exploitative treatment of disadvantaged people and poor families.

The Duchy described its investment, which was made in 2005, as “negligible”, but refused to disclose the sum. It also denies receiving any tax breaks from investing offshore in the Cayman Islands.

As a result of the claims, Her Majesty may face questions regarding the management of her investments, not to mention the ethical repercussions.
